With this post, we welcome a new series to Mpls City, What’s up this week. This series will contain weekly happenings with our team, our members, and our league!
Jumping right in to it, our home field welcomed us with wide open arms and provided a splendid rainy day for the home opener. The field had been prepped, the food truck was cooking, and the rain was falling. Reminiscent of The Field of Dreams How would the Grumpy Crows do for their inaugural home game in the Premier League of America? Don’t change the channel, because we’ll have that for you right after this reference.
We built it, and they came.

This past Saturday was a nice 1,2..3 punch combo. Our pregame festivities at The Rail Station included a Champions League viewing party and Summit specials before the ever loyal made the commute to The Barnyard to watch MCSC battle it out and walk away with a hard-earned 2-1 victory against the Croatian Eagles. A ninth minute goal by Matthew Gweh came as a result of a free kick headed towards the back post by AJ Albers. The Crows were enjoying most of the possession as the Eagles attempted to play direct long balls. Most of these were handled no problem until the 31st minute where Eagles striker Andrew Wiedabach was able to sneak in behind the Crow’s defense and slot past Elder. The game winning goal came in the 75th minute as Mr. Goose (Isaac Friendt) was rewarded for absolutely lighting the right wing on fire by earning a PK which was coolly placed in the corner by midfielder Max Stiegwardt. Applying our mission to real life, we had our first free clinic lead by Head Coach Keith Kiecker with over 30 kids coming out to practice and learn from a professional coach!
If you or your child may be interested in taking part in a clinic, check out the registration page here.
Take a gander at the current league standings and you’ll see that our MCSC currently sits in 3rd place, but with a game in hand. This makes the upcoming Twin Cities derby essential, as we can level with the Bavarians at 1st place with a win.
This will be a big matchup, and we would love if all 7 billion human beings could make it. While that likely isn’t the case, it would still be an absolute ball if you grabbed a pair of tickets here. and brought someone important!
