So.. what IS up this week?

Well we’re 1 point off the top with a game in hand, we’ve won two in a row, including a recent 3-0 thrashing of our neighbors the Minnesota United Reserves. So yeah, we’re all feeling a bit like Mr. Andy Lorei in this picture after his lovely solo goal.

“We’ll take that” says Minneapolis City after the commanding victory this past Friday night. There were two trends that highlighted themselves following this game. 1) We win at home. and 2) The weather is garbage until the Soccer Gods do us a grand favor and clear the skies right before kickoff.

In to some game recap. Mpls City leapt off to a great start after the fire-starter Goose did his thing, beating his man before being felled down inside the box and earning a PK in the 5th minute. You could say he likes to… think INSIDE the box… am I right? Anyone? Andy Lorei steps up to the spot and delivers a low, driven shot right to the corner to put the Crows up 1-0. The rest of the half saw chances for both sides, but we had to wait until the beginning of the second 45 to see another goal. Andy Lorei received the ball about 25 yards out, a quick turn drew a foul but he trooped on before firing home at the near post in the 52nd minute. The momentum was definitely on our side, but the Reserves had a few more chances. The game was put to rest when two of our subs combined in the 89th minute. Ryan Cammarota playing a brilliant ball in for Isaac Forsgren, who did the rest with no problem. Coming in from the outside and putting it past the Reserves keeper.

Let the good times roll.

And roll they will, as we head in to our weekend double header with games against Cedar Rapids and the Croatian Eagles. Keep an eye on the twittersphere for team happenings this weekend, as we look to solidify our position on top of the table. It will definitely be a big weekend for the team, as we’re only above Cedar Rapids on goal difference (and a game in hand..). Our first league match against the Eagles played out to a very tense 0-0 draw.

Keeping an eye on the prize (beer) and looking in to next week, Come have a beer with us at the Minnesota United Open Cup game against Sporting KC!
