Minneapolis, Minn. — Minneapolis City is proud to announce the signing of Minnesota Thunder Academy defender Jake Meier as a Development Player for the 2017 NPSL season, finishing a big day for the Shakopee senior as today he also formally committed to Indiana University.

Meier will be training with City before heading to Indiana for an early commitment.

Meier said, “joining a NPSL team like Minneapolis City is the next step towards reaching my dreams of playing professional soccer. I think playing at this level will prepare me for college and beyond.”

Meier follows in Isaac “Goose” Friendt’s footsteps, playing with City to prepare for Hoosiers soccer.

“We have had the opportunity to scout Jake a few times playing with MTA versus City teams and we immediately identified him as a player to keep an eye on” commented Sporting Director Jon Bisswurm.

“He has the height and the ability to read the game we look for in a centerback and it is great to have him in the mix, even though he will not fully join the organization until next season.”
