Minneapolis City will host the 2021 National Premier Soccer League Midwest Region tournament this weekend, July 23 – 25, at Edor Nelson Field on the campus of Augsburg University.

The semifinals will be played on Friday, July 23.

First up, FC Milwaukee Torrent (9-1-0), the champions of the Great Lakes Conference, meet Cleveland SC (8-0-2), the reigning Midwest Region champions and Rust Belt Conference winners, face off in the first semifinal. The match will kick off at 4:00pm and you can CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.

“This is a huge match-up” said Minneapolis City co-founder Jon Bisswurm. “Cleveland are an established powerhouse, unbeaten, the reigning champs, while Milwaukee made their conference look easy. This will be fun to watch.”

The main event sees Minneapolis City (11-1-0), the top ranked team in the country and North Conference champions, face off against surprise package Carpathia FC (6-2-3) from Detroit. Carpathia knocked off Duluth FC in the play-in game, coming back from a 2-0 halftime deficit in Duluth to win in penalties. The match will kick off at 7:00pm and you can CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.

“We know how tough it is to win in Duluth” said Bisswurm “and especially after how far Carpathia had to travel. They’ll be a dangerous team, they’re a seasoned team, and though we will have confidence and our home field it’s going to be a battle.”

The Region final will be played on Sunday, July 25.

The two winners will be back at Edor Nelson Field on Sunday at 1:30pm to contest the regional championship with the winner moving on to the national semifinal.

“Of the four teams here, three are in the top six nationally by points per game” continued Bisswurm. “The quality in this region is immense and it’s going to show on the field this weekend.”
